How to Apply to Gaborone International School
Applying to Gaborone International School is a straightforward process designed to ensure that every prospective student has the opportunity to join our vibrant learning community. Follow these steps to complete your application.
Step 1: Online Application Form
Please complete the Online Application form on our website.
Step 2: Upload Required Documents
Upload all of the required documents online (Student Birth Certificate, Parent/Guardian ID, Latest Academic Report).
Step 3: Application Number
An Application Number will be forwarded to you.
Step 4: Pay the Application Fee
Pay the P250 Application via swipe or EFT into our Bank account. (Use Application number as reference)
Step 5: Offer Letter
Once payment has been received, you will receive an Offer Letter that you need to accept online.
Step 6: Enrolment Fee
Pay the Enrolment fee via EFT or swipe and reference using the Application number
Step 7: SD Number
Lastly, we will issue you a student number (SD Number) and confirm your login details to the Parent Portal on SIMS (our Student and Parent Information System).

What age can children start at GIS?
Children can join GIS from the Early Years phase (2 years), with placement based on the child’s age and readiness for the relevant year group.
How do I apply for admission?
Parents can begin the application process by completing the online enquiry or application form through the school website or by contacting the Admissions Office directly.
What documents are required for enrolment?
Typically required documents include:
- A copy of the student’s birth certificate or passport
- Previous school reports
- Transfer letter from current school (where applicable)
- Passport photographs
- Immunisation records for younger students

Is there an entrance assessment?

What are the class sizes / student-to-teacher ratios?
GIS maintains class sizes that support meaningful engagement between students and teachers, allowing for individual attention, strong academic support, and effective classroom participation across all phases of the school. Our average class size is 25 students per teacher.
Is English-language support (EAL/ESL) available for non-English-speaking students?
Yes. We do offer learning to all non-English speaking students.
Is school uniform required, and where is it purchased?
Yes. Students are required to wear the official GIS school uniform. Uniforms can be purchased from the school’s approved uniform supplier, who conveniently has a shop on our campus. Available times: 07:00 - 15:30 - the shop is open during lunch hour.
Are transport / bus services provided, and which areas of Gaborone are covered?
We do not offer transport services but can share the contact details of providers used by some of our parents (please note that we have no affiliation to them)
Can students join mid-year or mid-term?
Yes. GIS accepts enrolments throughout the year, subject to availability and placement assessments. Please note that enrolment into Form 3 and 4 is limited due to the academic requirements of the examination programme.
